Witnessing to Non-Christians
What is your opinion on witnessing to non-Christians and do you witness to them? If so, what method do you use to witness to them and has anyone been receptive to hearing the Gospel?

Re: Witnessing to Non-Christians
Would you give them a cd of a sermon or a tract or just talk to them about God?

Re: Witnessing to Non-Christians
in this day and age, i would avoid 'materials' and go the old fashioned way - show an interest in them, learn their story, be patient, be kind, be gentle, be curious about who they are!
this is not likely to be a quick proposition, like you see on tv....
the person is highly programmed AGAINST our faith...

I agree with you, I think most people don't like materials handed to them right away and they would unfortunately probably wind up in the trash can.

Re: Witnessing to Non-Christians
For me as someone who has struggled with the truth in the past personally, the biggest impacts in my life have been when people extended kindness toward me even when I was being an unlikable person. It's true that actions really do speak louder than words. Now I find myself wanting to extend that same kindness to others that was given to me, even when I didn't "deserve" it. So while it's not outright witnessing (though the people that were kind to me were very vocal about their beliefs) it left a lasting impression on my life.

Re: Witnessing to Non-Christians
Thanks for the encouragement/compliment, s.t.mann. My mom is another inspiration for showing Christ's love. She is a very giving person even when she doesn't have much herself. I've seen her secretly give someone groceries that needed them without letting her act of kindness be known.

Re: Witnessing to Non-Christians
Personally, it's people's actions that I think speak louder than their words when they are witnessing to people, as people will see how they live their lives vs. what they are saying about God. For me personally anyway, it's easier for me to believe what people say about God that are humble than those that are proud.

Re: Witnessing to Non-Christians
I'm of the same opinion. I think actions speak louder than words. However, I think God has created different flavors of witnesses among His people. Some are bold and maybe even downright obnoxious, some are kind and gentle, and others fall somewhere in the middle. It takes all kinds to reach all kinds of people. In the end, though, it's really the Holy Spirit who does the work to reveal Himself to the lost. Thank God, because I sure would screw it up. I try to be kind and loving most of the time, but let's face it, who can "always" be kind and loving? LOL
Re: Witnessing to Non-Christians
I agree with that too, different people have different witnessing abilities and I think sometimes each person needs every kind of witnessing- sometimes people just need to be told the Gospel, and other times they need the kind and gentle approach.
